Legacy of Service, Unity, and Community

On August 13, 1946, the first meeting of Post 452 was held at St. Paul’s school in New Alsace. Joe Naber and a committee drafted by-laws and a constitution. A charter was formed and approved by the American Legion.
Since our founding, we've been a place where generations of veterans have shared stories, found solace, and forged lifelong friendships.
Monthly meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.

Our History

Since 1946, our post has been a gathering place for veterans and the community.

1940s

In 1947, the District Chairman of the Women’s Auxiliary visited the post in preparation of organizing the North Dearborn Women’s Auxiliary, for women to support those who served our country. A firing squad was formed with Ed Winters serving as Sargeant of Arms.

The post desired to have a post home so bingos, raffles, dances and other fundraisers were held to raise money. In 1949, 4 acres of land were purchased from Joseph Klump and is part of the current post location.

1950s

In 1952, enough money was raised to begin construction of a post home and in 1953, a 30’ x 60’ log building was erected.

Post members continued to invest in the unit. In 1956, the Firing Squad was outfitted in military style with helmets, pants, belts, and jackets.

In 1958, the first Jr. American League baseball team was sponsored. New York Yankees outfielder James Lytlle who was raised in Logan, IN was a member of the team.

1960s

More land was purchased in 1960 and a softball league was formed. The baseball field was outfitted with lights, allowing night games to be played.

The log building doubled in size in 1962 when what is now part of the kitchen, rest rooms and dining area was added.

1970s

A third addition was added in 1972, adding a bar, storage area and walk-in cooler, plus an expansion of the dining area.

1980s

During the1980s, outside restrooms were added, baseball dugouts, additional baseball field lighting, plus a new outside storage building was constructed.

Today

Post members have continued to invest in the building and property, including interior renovations.

The baseball field is frequently used by local baseball teams in the spring and summer in addition to a men’s wooden bat softball league.
